We normally need to do some keywords search before we start to build our website. Why?

Image the website is like a car, keywords like the navigation board, we would lose our way without navigation.

So the first important thing we should do is do research on keywords, but how? Don’t worry, today I am going to share with you guys some of SEO tools I often use in my daily working.

1.Google Keywords Planner

I took this tool as one of my favorite keywords tools from the first day I got to know SEO. As this is the official keywords tool from Google, I do believe that the data provided by Google is authoritative.

With this tool, you can choose out some moderate competitive keywords related to your niche. Moderate competitive keywords means that the keywords have large search volume per month but with low PPC price.

It has a large search volume means that this keyword is absolute the business keyword which may bring you some business.

Low PPC (Pay Per Click) means that keyword is still not overused right now, in another words we can say this keyword is less difficult to rank so never miss this opportunity to rank this keyword on the first page of Google SERP

Just in case make you more clear about what I am saying, I showcase the screenshot of keywords planner tool in below.

Compared to other keywords, I would definitely select the highlighted keywords as my main keywords for SEO as it has prospective search volume but with low competition.

2. Ubersuggest

This is my second favorite SEO tool, which was offered by Neil Patel. This tool is complete for free, one of the reasons I love it is this tool not only show you the search volume, but also show you the top 100 sites ranked for the keyword you search.

You can download both search volume and top listed sites.

For instance, when I tried to type the keyword”SEO” in ubersuggest, it gives me the result in below.

The first image showed that the keyword “SEO” is damn hard to rank. Not a chance it will be in my ideal keywords list.

The second image showed all the related keywords derived by the seed keyword “SEO”, in this part you can easily download the all the keywords with Excel format, then you can choose out the moderate competitive keywords manually. Don’t forget to follow the basic principle of keywords chosen:

  • Business Incentive
  • Low PPC cost.

In SERP analytics, what you will find the most site ranks for the keyword “SEO”, you could also download this list and make analytics on these websites. Studying what type of their content is as your reference for your blog or website.

3. SEMRUSH

SEMRUSH has multiple functions include keywords analytics, domain analytics, Googles ads analytics on competitors etc.

In domain analytics, you can just type the website you want to analytic whatever it is your own website or your competitor. It will show you how this site performance.

This is how my own e-commerce website performance in the past months. You can make sense from the below image that I have more than 1.3k keywords ranks well and also got 274 backlinks at the moment. I did run Google ads at the beginning of my business but finally I decided to end up with it as it really far beyond my expectation for the PPC cost.

If you want to dig deep into to check out how many keywords you have ranked for as well as what keywords you have already ranked, just directly move to the organic research part under Domain Analytics.

You can click to other parts like position change to check how the keywords position changed.

In the backlink area, you can monitor how many backlinks you got, are these backlinks dofollow or nofollow? What are the most anchor text for backlink? What are the domains for these backlinks?

Besides the above functions I indicated, you can also spy on the competitor’s ads copywriting for your reference.I wish you can study more functions by yourself.

SEM is charged tool but also you can use the free version which only shows you limited results.

My personal advice is using the charged version instead of free.

4.AnswerThePublic

Answerthepublic is one of the best tools for content marketing. If you have no any idea what topic and content you should write, try using this tool.

Simply type the keywords into the search box, all the related topic will be listed in a few seconds.

There are few types of result you will find in answerthepulic

Keyword Questions: What, When, Who, Where, Which, Why, Are,Will

Keyword Propositions: is, can, to, near, with….

Keyword Comparisons: and, vs…

Keyword Alphabetical:  keyword plus a to z

Keyword Related: this is the keyword auto-suggested by Goole when you type keywords on Google search box, these keywords are also vital to use.

5. MOZ

To be honest, I mostly use chrome extension-MOZ bar as the tool for measure DA when I am searching for the guest bloggers I would like to cooperate with.

Of course, you can use their SEO tools, but in my personal experience, I have to say this tool is less well performance than SEMRUSH,Ahrefs even the co-founder of Moz, Rand Fishkin (quited from Moz)admitted that Moz should follow up their innovation.

Moz bar is quite helpful for me when I was looking up the site’s DA. If you want to look for some bloggers for guest blog post, the DA should not less than 30, the more the better.

6.Keywordseverywhere

Keywordseverywhere is a damn great extension of chrome for keywords analytics.

With help of this tool, you can easily check out the related keywords also with its search volume without going to Google Keyword Planner.

7. Google Trends

Google Trends is a great tool for marketing analytics, for instance, if you are an e-commerce merchant selling mountain bikes, what are going to do with doing research where is your business should target?

Then try to use Google Trends. What you can get from the below image?

Well, We can figure out that mountain bike is very hot selling in the past 5 years in US, obviously it has clear hot sale season in Summer.

In this image we get to understand where is our main market located in.

With related topics and related queries, we would know what some other products our customers may look for. “Mountain Bike” is a very common product so we should focus on niche product according to its materials or color.

Conclusion:

1.Just remember to combine all the tools together when you are doing keywords research or marketing analytics.

2.Put your attention on the middle competitive keywords with high business incentive searching.
